Hello!

I'm going to buy plastic/construction film for the vapor barrier, and I'm now wondering if there's any difference between various brands.

I'm primarily looking for two or three characteristics.

I obviously want the vapor barrier function to work, which I don't think is a problem, but it must be age-resistant and, if possible, not let through radon gas.

Is there anyone here who knows if there's any difference regarding these properties between different brands of plastic?

Just ask for Åldersbeständig byggfolie at the building market, and you'll get the right one.
Whether it stops radon gas, I do not know.

Best regards, Putte

Yes, it's the radon gas that's the issue...

Isn't it common to lay regular construction plastic under crawl spaces to prevent radon from seeping into the house, or is there a special type of plastic?

Isn't the radon you're afraid of transported in the air? If that's the case, all plastics that stop air/moisture should also stop radon.

Edit. just noticed that you even wrote radon gas and then this should be self-evident.

Yes, it's airborne radon that is dangerous.

Yes, it should be that regular age-resistant construction foil stops radon gas.

It is regular (age-resistant) plastic that stops the radon, nothing unusual there. The difficult part is to make it airtight.

Regarding the differences between, for example, Byggmax plastic and other plastics, at least I haven't experienced any differences. I believe I have used three different products, but all meet the same Swedish standard as far as I can recall.

Sounds good

Then it's a trip to K-Rauta today...

Just make sure to get an age-resistant one, I've seen a variant that is a bit thinner and not UV-blocked (age-resistant).
