Installing beadboard on a wall of straw/plaster/timber

I am thinking of installing vertical beadboard paneling in the bedroom. The walls are timber walls currently covered with hay/wire/+ some form of "mortar" (standard in old timber houses). It's not fun to tear this away so I thought I'd put up the paneling directly on this... We're talking about 2-3cm before the nails or if it will be clips with screws that bite into the wood...

I don't want to build a lot by first framing... I would be okay with installing thin nailing strips first, or alternatively OSB/plywood.

What is a good solution? I have some ideas but not 100. I don't want to complicate things unnecessarily.

If the lerkliningen (assuming that's what you have on the wall) is firmly attached, long screws in clips should work perfectly. For example, trim screws or decking screws are both long and thin.
