Attaching beaded paneling to the wall 12mm where to place brads?

going to put up a wall with pärlspont. Have tried googling a bit. Gotten some different answers. Many say putting it in the groove will cause cracking. What's the truth? I would like it as tight as possible. Was also considering putting a dyckert where I marked with an arrow, is that a good place to attach the nail? But I don't want it to crack. I have both a 16 and 18ga gun. Also wondering if 18ga is enough? Will make some holes too.

You can also nail hidden with brackets. However, I don't know how it works if you're going to nail with picka./Lob
