Hi! In the middle of a renovation, and I've started thinking about the old fireplace. Eventually, a cassette will be installed, but for now, I'm focusing on getting the fireplace in good external condition.

I plan to keep it simple and follow the old shape. A part of one corner was knocked off during the room's demolition and needs to be rebuilt. Any tips and ideas on how I should proceed? I've never done masonry/casting/reinforcing in my life.

(Side note: the wooden studs against the chimney are going to be replaced with metal studs, as we're not allowed to have it this way?)

  • An old brick fireplace under renovation, with one corner partially demolished. Wooden beams and metal pipes nearby.
  • Old brick fireplace corner partially demolished, with visible damage and missing bricks. Wooden and metal supports nearby amid renovation materials.
  • Damaged brick fireplace corner under renovation, with exposed bricks and wooden framework nearby.
I would spontaneously say that the träreglarna are ok if you have an insert with air between it and the chimney.

No one has any suggestions?

Drill rebar into the old joint and let them sit in the new one, I think that will be easiest.
