Aha, I probably already have loads of those at home. I assume the idea is to attach them so that what sticks out from the existing wall aligns properly to be embedded in the mortar between two blocks.

I probably managed to ask about both things in the same question. :-)

Anyway, I'll go with rebar reinforcement and attachment with angle iron to connecting walls and ceiling, so I've probably done it properly and won't have to redo it.
