Just received a number of pallets with these blocks. 250 wide. I'm going to build a frost-free garage. Should I use butt joints? What is the recess on one of the short sides for?
The routing on the short side, I'm not really sure what it's for, maybe to facilitate placement as finger space? You can't use it for piping and reinforcement since the blocks are laid in a staggered pattern. The routing on the top of the blocks is for reinforcement.
Full-bed masonry gives stronger masonry than joint-free, but the latter is faster and also cheaper in terms of materials. However, joint-free masonry is very unsuitable below ground level. I prefer to do everything with full-bed masonry (with joint), I think it feels best.
