Hi! Anyone have tips on how to drill a 22mm hole through the wall without the drill picking up the insulation and forming a ball on the drill? The wall is panel-air gap-wind barrier-195+45+45mm insulation+OSB+gypsum. A small silly problem, but when I drilled vent holes with a hole saw, I could stick my arm in and get the stuff out!
But not with a 22mm hole!
What do you do? It's hardly the first time someone installs an outdoor light! Not sure if this is the right forum, but I'm trying here!

Used a center drill when we made holes for the awning cord, worked perfectly. However, would recommend going for 18 or 20mm and pulling flexible conduit between the junction box and the fixture.

Yes, I will run a conduit through the wall. The problem I have is that when I drill, the drill bit "sucks up" a lot of insulation, forming a "ball" on the bit! When I drilled for the vents, I managed to get the "ball" out through the large hole for the vent.

Completely untested, but if you find a pipe with an inner diameter around 22 mm, maybe you can drill a slightly larger hole from the "appropriate" side, maneuver/press the pipe through the insulation to the other side, and then drill the last bit "inside" the pipe with 22 mm.

Is it a big problem that a little insulation comes out? It can't really be that much. I would just go ahead with a center drill :)

I have drilled several holes through insulated facades without the insulation bunching up into a ball. I don't think that problem exists.

No, that's what I thought...

Ok! If the problem doesn't exist then you don't need to answer. My damn insulation became like a ball around the drill anyway!!

Ok. Then I've learned something new.

Thank you for all the "tipps"! Finishing and doing as Alfredo tippsed me about!

difference between hole saw and drill maybe? Haven't had the "ball problem" when drilling in insulation either...

Sorry, maybe a late reply but...
Why such a big hole?
Shouldn't the hole just be enough for you to run a power cable with maybe 8 mm diameter to the lamp?

It's the same problem regardless of diameter! Found an answer on another forum-electric. That worked! Just drill through the boards, then push through the insulation without drilling! Then drill through the panel! It worked!! I want a vp pipe through the wall!
