Reciprocating saw works fine for cutting flush, the blade flexes enough that it's not a problem. I don't think a hacksaw can solve it unless you remove the frame and only use the blade, but that's not something I would do.

My order of priority would be:
1: Pipe wrench and just pull the he***** out
2. Reciprocating saw

3: there is no need for a 3, number 2 solved everything.

Update. All screws are gone except one! My husband got new energy and used all his strength with the pipe wrench. It worked! We'll have to saw off the last one.

Otherwise, try something penetrating in the thread, sometimes regular soap water can work excellently.
