I am in the process of adding insulation to a door. A longer spindle for the handle and screws for the lock and handle are easy to find, but I am stumped by the lock thumbturn. Is there a simple way, like a sleeve so that I can attach an additional spindle? Or should one simply weld a piece onto the spindle? (I believe it's steel). The old thumbturn has a spindle of about 30 mm and I need to extend it by about 35 mm.

That is a spindle. They are used to connect door handles to the door lock. 8x8 mm. But as I mentioned, I already have a new one (though longer, Jula's is too short for my door). Thanks anyway.

What I am looking for is a spindle for the lock knob.

Buy a new door knob, a shiny new one that matches the door's refresh.

Chicken choice. :) I've considered it, but haven't found anything I like. The only one I've seen is Assa that's sold in a set where I still have to replace the screws (too short) and the rod/carrier.
