I just had the roof redone and there are a couple of things I'm considering complaining about. However, I'm unsure if I have any grounds for it? What do you think?
The issue concerns how the ridge tiles have been laid. In some places, the tile is placed over the fascia, but in other places, the tile is placed under the metal flashing. This results in a gap between the fascia and the roof tiles. This is mainly what I think looks wrong, but maybe it's okay?

I feel that if I'm going to point this out, it's best to do it before I pay the invoice.

Should one inspect the new roof when lacking the knowledge to assess the work oneself?

Thanks in advance!

  • A tiled roof with ridge tiles; some overlap the bargeboard while others are under the metal flashing, creating a gap between tiles and the bargeboard.
  • Roof with newly installed tiles showing variation in ridge tile placement and a gap between tiles and verge flashing.

Are the ridge tiles nailed, in principle it is tight there, but another thing I see is how the metal (the bargeboards) tilts outward on both roofs, then water will run on the outside of the metal down onto the wooden bargeboard, not good, they should tilt in towards the tiles

The ridge tiles should be nailed/screwed with ridge sealing underneath. The bargeboard flashing has a drip edge on the outside that protects the bargeboards but it sounds reasonable that the slope should be towards the tiles.

What do you think about the gap between the bargeboard flashing and the tiles? The gap is ~8cm at most and the bargeboards are completely untreated, so it feels a bit unprotected.
