Our house is built with 20cm lightweight concrete walls as exterior walls.

I would like to install a door in the wall where there is currently a window. What do I need to consider to do this?

  • A window in a concrete wall with a view of houses and greenery outside, intended to be replaced by a door.
  • Window above a radiator, with a wooden floor, where the homeowner considers replacing it with a door.
  • Windows on a light concrete wall overlooking a neighborhood with trees. User plans to replace a window with a door.
Remove the radiator, remove the window.
Saw away the siporex with a reciprocating saw blade intended for lightweight concrete. Watch out for any rebar and possible electrical conduits. Install the new door.
Cutting downward as in your case requires no lintel or similar.

What kind of aerated concrete is it? Blåbetong?

I don't know yet. Haven't gained access and checked. But it's very possible.

Would there be any problem with cutting/chiseling away all the concrete under all windows and replacing them with larger windows that go all the way down to the floor?

I assume that the concrete above and between all the windows must remain for load-bearing purposes.

No, there are no problems. You're thinking correctly.

Is it possible to install a door at an existing window and thereby remove the space under the window (which is made of lightweight concrete)? No widening of the opening, it will remain the same size as the window, i.e., 90 cm.
