I am going to build a small sloped roof over the basement stairs. Currently, the wall is covered with board cladding with battens. I'm thinking the roof should be approximately as wide as the shaft and with a slope that essentially follows the stairs. On the roof, I want something heavy and quiet, maybe tiles or an insulated construction with felt.

How should I connect the roof to the wall?
I want it to be reasonably tight so that leaves, snow, and other debris don't blow into the joint, but I'm not keen on tearing down the entire wall.
 
Saw off the panel (oil and paint the end grain while it is accessible).
Insert type of flashing behind the panel and then build the roof.

I had only cut the lockläkten, not the entire panel.
 
The cladding is right against some strange stone wool mat with a tar paper-like story (impregnated fiberglass I saw on a label) on both sides.

Well, it's sparsely battened behind the boards, so it's not a good option. The lower ones I can stabilize with the rule on the outside, but it's worse with the upper ones.

That's roughly what I've been thinking too. And then a base plate under the strips, elastic sealant between the plate and cladding, and tight with screws. Can it be tight enough? Possibly, you could mill a small groove in the boards and fold in a tiny edge on the plate there, but that feels very much like overkill... or?
 
Base plate is what you should have, not foot plate.
I've done it both on the sunroom and the porch, and it becomes completely tight, but if a drop manages to seep through, what does it matter? It's outdoors... Milling feels like overkill, better to let the facade (bottom boards) remain untouched
