I know there are many skilled carpenters on BH, can anyone give me some good advice? I'm thinking of building a stand for a column drill. It needs to be stable because the machine weighs quite a bit. I thought of putting it on wheels so I can move it when needed. How do you solve that in wood? The timber available is 70x70 + a few other pieces, including a board to place on top, seemed appropriate. I've made a sketch with the dimensions, (without wheels), how do I proceed? Do I need to have boards on the sides to prevent it from folding? Or is it better to get profile tubes and weld it together?
What kind of column drill is it? I don't think I would dare to put my Arboga E100 on such a stand.
Keep in mind that the center of gravity becomes very high, and when you're rolling something, there's always the risk of hitting something small on the floor and coming to a sudden stop.
It's similar to this, weighing about 60kg. I'm not planning to rally with it, just pull it out when needed. Yes, I can also understand that it might be difficult to make it stable. Maybe better to get some 40x40 profile and weld one together, that I feel comfortable with.
The problem is the wheels, I think... You want stability when you drill... you won't get that in this way... see if you can find wheels that can be folded down instead... the frame is probably no problem, like how you had drawn it...
Well, it didn't turn out as planned, but I still think it's okay. You have to handle it gently if you're going to move it, but otherwise, I believe this simple model will work.
