I'm going to lay paving stones in a circle around a tree, and eager as I am, I didn't want to order and wait for pre-cut pieces, so I thought about cutting them myself but I'm not sure if I'm thinking correctly. Can someone with math/geometry skills help me?

The stones measure 210mm x 140mm, and I plan to lay them in length, with the long side facing inwards/outwards. If I use 8 stones, the circumference will be 1680mm (210 x 8). 360 degrees divided by 8 stones is 45 degrees. So should each stone be cut at 22.5 degrees? Or am I thinking completely wrong?

Uploading a completely pathetic picture of what I mean, if it makes it clearer.

  • A diagram illustrating a trapezoid with a 22-degree angle on one side, representing a plan to cut paving stones for a circular pattern around a tree.

That's correct.

Imagine that your 360° should be distributed over N joints, and the joint's angle should be distributed over two stones.

Great, thanks!
