Focus on concrete with reinforcement.. Narrow stones are more than sufficient.
It's probably not a bad idea to refill before the form is removed. The roof does press out the walls.
I completely agree with Daniel, backfill at least the height of the straight walls before removing the form.D Daniel 109 said:
Our form was quite solid, so be prepared to work a bit to get it off, but wait at least a week.
How has it been going with the root cellar?
Your project has reignited my interest in root cellars, so I'm wondering if it might become a little spring project next year, maybe take advantage of when we have to dig up the garden anyway for municipal sewage!

It's moving forward. It went well to remove the mold and I will plaster the front and put in the door frame soon. I realize it might have been easier to plaster before I added the soil, but I wanted to get rid of the soil piles (will add more soil eventually). I've stood on the roof and jumped a little, holds fine, no cracksScouten said:
Yes, it's a fun project. Many people stop by and talk when I'm there working.

Nice stuff! What are the requirements for a building permit if you're making a small and fairly low earth cellar?

No, that is incorrect. A building is a building even if it is completely underground, and buildings require a building permit (with certain exceptions).Anna_H said:
