Hello,
I have a single-story house with a cold attic & basement from 1943.

We have a narrow hallway and are considering building a new hall/entrance by the existing one.
Currently, we have a foundation plinth of about 50 cm from ground level to the entrance level.
Should we build the new entrance/hall at ground level with steps inside the new hall, or build it at the same level as the current entrance level?
If we build at the same level as the entrance level, i.e., 50 cm above ground level, how should we build it? Should we use pillars (would be looong pillars) or should we dig out and build up with leca-stones? Or do you have other ideas?

How big should it be? Considering about 2.5 x 2.5 meters.

Grateful for your thoughts and ideas! :D:P

Just completed a similar extension. Built up with leca, about 60cm above ground.
Foundation footing frost-free, leca to desired height, 300mm of insulation, cast slab with underfloor heating.

Ours is 2.5x3.5. Fits us well.

Hi,
How fun! :)
Do you have any picture you can share? It would be great to get some inspiration.
When you built with leca, did you fill concrete all the way up, or do you leave it to be like a crawl space? If so, is it enough to ventilate from two sides, or is some kind of fan required?

Do it yourself had something similar a while ago. With drawings/images/costs. I will get back with a link if I find something on their site.

I'll check if there are any good pictures.
I haven't filled with concrete, but with gravel 8-16.

Anyone have an idea of what it roughly costs for a new hall, say about 6 sqm?

Foundation at frost-free depth, how deep did it become? In Västernorrland it's almost two meters and in Skåne I believe it's about 1 meter.

Depends on what you plan to do yourself, if you’re going to do anything yourself. How many windows, choice of materials, ground conditions, etc.

In our area, frost-free is considered at 90-100cm in clay soil, and 10-15% less in sand. We have sand/light soil and have dug 80-90cm.

you'll have to scroll a bit to get to the pictures of the foundation/extension, now ours is a bit larger than what you had in mind, about 21 m², the slab is at about 1 meter depth, then it's built as a crawl space foundation with four vents. It's not that difficult to make the floors at the same level if you know plus and minus.

It can look nice with a small indoor staircase too, and there might even be an opportunity to create a higher ceiling in the hallway in that case to achieve a grand feeling when entering the house. :)

How did it go for you? I have a similar situation. We have a concrete staircase standing on cast piers. Thinking of removing the stairs and using the piers to build a beam for the new floor.
