Hello,

I'm in the process of renovating the bathroom at home, there are quite a few things to be done and I'm planning to do the preliminary work myself.

1) Break up the old cast concrete floor to be able to move the drains and water pipes
2) Let a plumber fix the drainage and piping
3) Insulate and cast so that the flooring installers can level and lay the new floor,

What do you think is preferable from a cost and function standpoint when casting the new bathroom floor? The old floor was built with fiberglass insulation on the concrete slab and then cast with concrete on top of that, with tar paper against the wooden structure.

I'm also considering, in the bathroom's exterior wall where there are currently two narrow horizontal windows about 40*60 cm in size, replacing them with two "window walls" made of glass blocks. The U-value is worse than triple-glazed windows and there might be risks with thermal bridges etc. in the joints, but aesthetically, I really like it.

Grateful for good answers and tips/advice on the casting and the window walls,

How much insulation were you planning to put in and what type? Underfloor heating? Why not tiles instead of carpet, there's a big difference in feel and quality if you're going to have underfloor heating. Do you mean glass blocks? Impractical in my opinion, nice to have an openable window in the bathroom and probably poor insulation value as you mentioned plus it feels very 70s :(

- Choosing carpet because it's cheaper and should match sauna/shower.
- No underfloor heating
- Insulation thickness will be about 95mm if I follow previous installation (some fiber variant)
- Yes, I meant concrete glass (the house is already extremely 70s on the outside, so why not match it! :D)

I'm mostly unsure about the most suitable choice of insulation along with the choice of concrete composition. Advice, please!
