Hello everyone.
I just bought a house, and the survey said that the brickwork above the door needs work (see photo - clear enough when you zoom in). I have no experience with mortar and bricks. Should I try and reset the bricks myself or should I get a professional to do it? If a professional, how do I find someone who will do a quality job?
It seems strange to me that there isn't a lintel over the door. Should one be added?
Thanks!

Low quality picture but your stones dont look too common so you cant order an prefab balk with ease
Since the stones är fairly uncommon you cant do it propper but you can fix it good enough.
Remove all stones that lose, remove the rebars that have corroded. Thats why this happened (corrorion expansion)
Drill and cut next too the stones that not lose in the fog so you have room for a bistål.
Place a stud at level where you want and use b-bruk, place all bricks with mortar inbetween but only ad mortrar 1/3 of the bricka in tip. Them push in the bistål and fill with mortar. Leave last 1/4 open for a more suiting mortar colour and let it sit for a week.
But a decent Mason can do this Cheap enough and find the correct mortar for final look that as near as possible to original.

Hi, thanks for all of this detail. Certainly sounds doable for me, but probably not with a very attractive finish! I will look for a contractor to do this as having a professional finish is important in such a visible part if the house. Thanks again!L Lerstenstegel skrev:Low quality picture but your stones dont look too common so you cant order an prefab balk with ease
