Hi all!

Working with wood is my life ling dream.

I’ve been watching wood working videos for a long time; I’ve bought and read the 3 books of Tage Frid (which were amazing!), taught myself CAD software etc. I have some projects I would like to do, such as an oak table and some custom shelves.

I’ve moved to a new place and I’ve been redoing the walls with the help of someone more experienced; it really fast tracked my learning of how to do that work. It was a eureka moment for me: being able to get answers to questions and move faster through obstacles.
Now, I feel a little insecure about my start in woodworking.
I wonder if there is a good soul out there, that has got experience with making an oak table or such, that could mentor me while I make one; I’d be grateful if someone could answer some questions when they come, help me avoid too many mistakes and be mostly confident about the process; someone who’d enjoy teaching and help someone else grow.

I’m based in Stockholm; so it might make it easier if it’s someone local too; but I’m just grateful if anyone out there wants to support.
It’s something I’m hoping to start within a month or two.

Hope someone out there can relate to where I am and what I’m trying to learn; and want to be part of that.

Take care!

Hej! Glad to hear you're enthusiastic about wood working. Have you thought about taking a woodworking class e.g. at Folkuniversitetet? You get access to all the machines you might need and help with your project. I started learning about making furniture in a class in Upplands Väsby just North of Stockholm, highly recommended. A couple of evenings learning basic joinery techniques like dovetails and mortise-and-tenon and introduction to the machines, and then you pursue your own project.

Not local.
But i think we are alot of ppl here that can guide you :)

Hi Tilman! I had not thought of that and that would seem like a good option! I've checked the courses out and indeed, there are classes still at the location you said. Were you able to use the tools there for you own projects too?

In the course I went to ("möbelsnickeri"), you were even meant to come up with your own project and work on it with their tools. It was two sessions of guided work, like I said, mostly joinery and machine operation and safety, and the remaining 5 or 6 (I don't remember how many weeks it was exactly) you can build whatever you want.

That's the one! There might be other, similar classes in and around Stockholm as well.

That was the only location I found on https://www.folkuniversitetet.se
Would you have some tips to find other places? I live south of town actually (near globen)

I have no idea of these are any good or have courses right now, but here:

are two sites that offer similar courses.

Then there's Gyllene Spiken ([länk]) which is more a shared shop I think, but it might be interesting nevertheless.
Hello; we’re would you buy furniture ready oak? I have been in contact with sellers on FB marketplace as well as checked what there is on Bauhaus. But I’m not sure which way to go, to make a table 200x100x3cm +-
