I heard from someone working at a sawmill that there were quadruple prices on certain dimensions. It's probably that level that's raking in money now.

I'm doing some renovations in the summer cabin and went to the local hardware store and asked about the price because I need 10 OSB boards. But I thought the seller was joking when he mentioned the price. However, that was not the case, so I'll have to find another solution :(

  • Image of OSB board product listing from a building supply store website, showing a price of 618 kr per board and details about its dimensions.
Materials for boat interiors seem to have the same price as a few years ago, if it continues like this, mahogany will soon be cheaper than pine :D

Batton 1x2" (25x48) is now listed at 10kr/m, as recently as 2016 you could buy 2x4 for that money.

Went to Beijer last week and bought window trims for a small extension, 28x95 spruce. Loaded 12 pieces of 4.8 m planks onto the roof rack but nearly had a fit at the checkout. 67.20 SEK per meter resulted in the modest price of 3870 SEK! Admittedly crossed out, but still...

Ha ha - "aren't you putting OSB behind the plasterboard?" - "No no, I'm saving and using mahogany"

now it's admittedly birch plywood, but 2440x1220x15 costs over a thousand. The local byggmax has doubled OSB and plyfa compared to last year. Every month-end during the summer has meant an increase of about 20%. Will these prices be established, perhaps?

I know of several new productions that have significantly revised their calculations...

Just built in a piece of mahogany in the garage door, on a surface that will be completely covered with copper sheet. Rot-resistant and cheap, since I only needed a quarter of a sheet. :D

Two weeks ago, I was at my local Byggmax in Borås to buy some OSB.

Firstly, they only had 900×2100×11. It cost 359 SEK/sheet.

Secondly, right next to it was a large pile of 1200×2400×12 plywood.. which also cost 359 SEK/sheet!

Yes, I bought plywood instead.

Bought batten and 45x45 in recent days.
Feel violated.

Won't be doing more carpentry than necessary in the near future.

That's a better choice. So when the difference is small, I would choose plywood even if it is slightly more expensive.
I agree that plywood is better than OSB, but particleboard? Sure, it's smoother than OSB, but otherwise?

Hope this means a somewhat quick readjustment.

Quite glad I started my roof lift last spring. Most purchases just before Covid were quite cheap. Still bought OSB at Byggmax and Bauhaus for under 130:- :- in May. Now left with beams and OSB for a couple of interior walls. We'll see if I manage to see any turnaround before it's time. However, I am pleased that I probably saved 200000:- compared to if I had built now instead of last year:)

Headline from Dagens Industri about a significant drop in timber prices, describing it as a burst bubble and detailing the sharp decline on the Chicago Exchange.

It's starting to be time to sell off the leftover form plywood sheets I have left over.

Went to the local XL-bygg today and bought two studs 45x70 (5.4m). Found one straight and the other had a bend in the last meter, but thought it was OK (didn't want to mess up the pile any more). The affordable price for these two studs was 408 kr, i.e., almost 40 kr/m!

Therefore, I thought I'd amuse myself by finding an even worse example. My contribution will be an OSB board from Beijer and the challenge to the forum is to surpass with something even worse.

Today it has been reduced by 25kr m² at Beijer

I work at Beijer and we lowered the prices yesterday...osb went down 25kr m²...but still insanely high prices...the Yanks and Canadians are buying up all the timber...and we haven't caught up from last year's sales. Hence, the price has increased so much.
