would you dare to saw off giant thresholds in an old house?
Someone just called and asked if they could make handicap adjustments to my other villa and saw off the high thresholds between the rooms.
I approved with the comment that it should be serious carpenters who know what they are doing... Not just that they follow a work order regardless of what it says...
So it's best to check with you...
A house from say the 1930s... with doors between the rooms, the thresholds are about 20-25cm high or something...
Is it safe to just saw these off or could they be significant load-bearing elements in some way?

Mja...at least in a log cabin, they can have a binding function.
Hope you mean 20-25 cm wide
Personally, I think it's a real shame, can't they install some form of plates or wedges so they can get over the threshold (which can be removed later if you want to restore the originals)?
I can't imagine that they would have any load-bearing function.

haha, I didn't have time to change. for the first time in a very long time, I got the key and was able to go in and look... it was rather like 5cm high... 10-15cm wide...
it's a timber building, below is probably a low torpagrund or whatever they are called, it stands on a low wall so to speak...
and yes I'm considering not only encouraging them to pave so it becomes a mild speed bump for the pensioner only...

Don't remove them for anything in the world.. it would be a huge shame.
Nice.
