I am renovating the basement of my house built in 1954. Glued vinyl flooring and painted fabric wallpaper on the walls are not very inspiring. The floor will be covered with Platon mat and then laminate flooring. I plan to frame the walls and then put up drywall. I have read a bit about how unsuitable it is to use wooden studs against concrete and that metal studs should be used. Now I find that metal studs seem a bit complicated and expensive. Wouldn't it be fine to use wooden studs if I put tar paper in between (I got hold of a roll of something called "grundpapp")? There have never been any moisture problems in the basement, and it doesn't smell like a “basement.” It would be nice if it could stay that way.
Hi! You don't mention if it concerns outer walls or internal walls. It doesn't matter what type of wall it is, you just lay your papp. New houses with concrete slabs have plastic foil placed under internal walls, and rubber strips or similar under outer walls.
