Wide trim cracks when I screw it down

I'm in the process of installing a three-part molding. It's been a while since we bought the moldings (really?), and they are quite warped, the wide middle part cracked when I tried the first piece.

The question is if there's any trick to straighten it out so it doesn't crack, maybe moistening it for a while or something like that. Otherwise, I'll have to order new wood.

Try just screwing the strip at the top and bottom, so there won't be as much tension in it. I assume you pre-drill the holes?

Saw grooves on the backside, like you see on slightly wider boards you buy at the hardware store.

Cutting grooves sounds smart, then I'll get to use the plunge saw!
