Why does my stair repair, made with A-bruk, turn almost white in some spots when it dries?

  • Concrete stair repair with white patches, questioning discoloration post-drying with A-bruk mortar.

Pure cement mortar becomes very light, all repairs usually become lighter than the surrounding old material. If you want, you can add pigment to make the new darker. Have you watered it for several days after application? Because it looks very dry.

No, it's newly laid, haven't had time to water. Just wondering why the color differs in different places. Could it be because there is a repair layer underneath (had to build up) in those areas?

The brightest is probably the thickest you have applied.

That might be true, I didn't know it gets lighter because of a thick layer..

But what you see outside the deep repair is probably just a thin layer of sludge where the darker substrate is visible through...

Does it tend to get darker over time?

Yes, it gets dirty quite quickly on a staircase...
