Why does it bulge around the drywall screw?!
Hello! I'm having a headache now while I'm installing renovation plaster. As you can see in the picture, the plaster/cardboard bulges out when I screw into the middle of the board. It looks better when you screw in the countersink on the edges than in the middle.. is it simply the wrong screw? I'm using 3.9x30 mm
Very uneven surface behind? I've also seen renovation plasterboard behave like that if the surface behind is too uneven.G Grymsing said:Hello! I have had the exact same problem 🙁
Tried three different types of screws. Then I thought it was Byggmax bad drywall, so I tested boards from K-rauta. Same misery.
It seems to be a standard problem with renovation drywall.
Had to take a sharp knife and carve off the bulges.

Might be that the screw pulls and cracks a piece of the (reinforced) drywall before it pulls itself into the material behind. Haven't seen the phenomenon with regular boards. Could match Cykelola's experience too. Push harder with the screwdriver?
Have had the same issue, guessing that it's the fiberglass reinforcement in the thin sheet that's the cause. Somehow it's pushing out the overlying gypsum layer. But I could be completely wrong. 🙂
Ended up hammering over it and then spackling.
Since then, I've only used regular gypsum boards.
