Could it not be a slope to prevent the water from standing on the horizontal beam? Either way, I would say it doesn't matter, if the boards are allowed to dry, they will last incredibly long.

Yes, that's true, but wanting the runoff towards the slats is what most of us here find strange.

If I had made the drainage, I would also have chosen the slats, as they are so easy to replace.

Wait a minute. That's not how it looks when I build fences…. :) the spacer is between the posts…

Yes, that's what I'm planning to do too. But still, I think that one would want the bevel to slope AWAY FROM the slats TOWARDS the property. Unless there's an aesthetic issue I'm not understanding.

I agree, if you even want to bother. I have fences that are over 20 years old where I didn't angle them, and I can't see any signs of rot.

A lot of debris will accumulate in the pocket between the load-bearing beam and the fence board if you do as Hornbach suggests?
And we like red circles here on the forum 😛

That's how it turned out. Made a "template" for hanging up the load-bearing beams. Easy to get everything right afterward. Screwed from the outside and hide the screws with the ribs.

  • Wooden fence posts and beams on a dirt path, aligned with a string for guidance. Blue tarp and wooden boards in the background.
  • Wooden beams set in a garden, forming a structure for hanging support beams. Screws are hidden by laths, with greenery in the background.
  • Wooden template for hanging support beams, showing construction setup on grass and soil with a fence in the background.
