Hello!

We are going to extend the porch on our villa. We are very inexperienced with working with outdoor stone. What types of stone do you think are on the "floor" surface? And in the foundation?

The previous owner says that the "floor" surface is not slate.

Where is the easiest place to buy these types of stones?

Thanks in advance for the help!
Fredrik

  • A porch with a white bench, stone tiles on the floor, and stone steps leading up. A wooden board covers a nearby window.
It's slate, I would guess Offerdal slate.
There are many who sell these, at different prices. Some more fantastic than others ;-)
Here is a good one with reasonable prices on the west coast:

Thanks Jan_G for the response!

Is it also slate in the foundation?

It looks like there is a row of slate around the porch with granite below.
But the foundation of the house seems to be clad with irregular slate.
The easiest way if you want to extend is probably to try to remove the slate that is on the edges and then just shape and cast a larger porch/bridge. Then clad it with slate again.

Hello!

I have taken a better photo now.

Where can I buy stone that resembles the foundation, at the bottom of the entrance porch? That is, the naturally shaped stones at the bottom? If I only count the new surface area of stone needed, it's about 4-5sqm, so not a huge amount.

My craftsman didn't like the idea of tearing down the old bottom foundation stone and putting it back up...

Thanks in advance!

as I believe was previously mentioned, it looks like there's a granite wall at the bottom and what you see is probably the foundation wall for the porch, not some cladding stone (unless previous owners can swear by an underlying construction in another material). A stone company should be able to find a similar type of cladding stone with a split face, but emulating an old foundation wall is a bit less common since the most common practice today is to buy falling lengths of straight-cut cladding stone. VE-Sten in the capital can probably help with materials if you happen to be nearby. Otherwise, companies that deal with local stonecutting.
