My partner and I have recently moved into an apartment in Stockholm built around the 50s. We want to put up an Elfa shelf for books and we thought the wall was made of aerated concrete - but no. The plug came right out. We maybe thought it was some type of plaster but there’s no "hole" and the dust is very gray/black almost. This is what it looks like… does anyone know what type of wall it is and how (if possible) to attach an Elfa shelf that will hold for books?
Best regards,
The couple who is clueless despite Google
If you're unlucky, the wall is slag stone and it's not easy to fasten things so that they stay in place.
A slag wall is a wall constructed with so-called slag stone. Slag stone is made from coke ash. This results in a building material that is relatively lightweight. Since we no longer burn coke, other building materials have replaced slag stone (such as aerated concrete or lecablocks). In

Is there anything that can make it possible to fasten in slag stone?
