Hello!
I'm currently tearing out the joists on the upper floor. Among the sawdust and debris, there is material like what's shown in the picture. It's some kind of paper, with something fiberglass-like attached to it.

doesn't look like asbestos, possibly the fabric might contain it. Just use a face mask. When I was 15 years old, I worked with pure asbestos, pipe in one hand and a wire brush in the other hand as I brushed the asbestos board, it was quite dusty, but I don't think it was dangerous then, in the mid-60s, I'm 77 now. But of course, one should be very careful.
Thank you! I've seen it in several places in the house over the years. But always as some form of caulking. Never seen it used as regular insulation. It reminded me of old pipe insulation, which sometimes can contain asbestos. But it was nice to hear. I'm not particularly worried about a little asbestos. But if it were asbestos, you would still need to remediate.
Use respiratory protection, though I assume you do, that old fiberglass is a mess to deal with, like all old Gullfiber and Rockwool.
Yuck, the amount of dust I've inhaled over the years unnecessarily when a simple respirator works excellently.
Before, I was young and dumb, now I'm older (and maybe a little dumb) but realize that I'm not immortal.

Unfortunately, I'm old and stupid😄. No, but around 50 and often too lazy to limp off and look for the mask. However, I'll be dead in a few years anyway, so it doesn't really matter🙂. But sure, sometimes you feel like, "oh, that wasn't good for the breathing."
Unfortunately, I am old and dumb😄. Just kidding, but I'm around 50 and often too lazy to limp away and look for the mask. However, I will be dead within a few years anyway, so it's not that important🙂. But sure, sometimes you feel like "oh, that wasn't good for the breathing."
When I was 50, I thought that with my lifestyle (smoker since age 7, lots of alcohol, and no exercise at all) I probably wouldn't live past 65.
Then I quit smoking, got a wife and goals in life, and now I'm 69 years old, and it seems like I'm still healthy enough to live a bit longer 🤓
And yes, in my youth, I used to grind the brake pads on the moped and car with a rotating wire brush to remove that glazed surface... completely without a mask 😷

Hm, either you are a pessimist or seriously ill if you think you will be dead within a few years, I hope for pessimist because that can be changed.
If it's the latter, I sympathize and hope that, too, can be changed.

If it’s the other, I apologize and hope that can be changed too.
No, unfortunately it is a muscle disease without a cure, or anything else. Similar to ALS.

Very sad to hear, I really hope it doesn't go that way, and you have my sympathy, I only know you as an alias on a forum but somehow there is a person behind it with whom you exchange opinions and thoughts.

Thank you, it means a lot! I understand your feeling. Even though you only know someone like this, it can still feel personal in such situations.
