What does "water-repellent surface layer" mean?
Hi! I'm in the process of renovating a guest toilet, which only includes a toilet and a sink. When I read the regulations, it states that such a space only needs a "water-repellent surface." However, I can't find a definition of what this means. My question is, do I need a rubber membrane on the floor that is folded up against the wall before tiling? Or is it enough with tiles and ceramic tiles as a water-repellent surface? I can also add that under the levelling compound, there's an old rubber mat from way back. It's not completely intact against the walls, but it covers the entire floor.
As usual, grateful for your response.

Wondering the same as above. Is it enough to have drywall on the walls that you then tile halfway up from the floor? In other words, tile/grout after the floor (concrete), drywall on the wall that you tile partway up onto?Skåneskutan said:

Of course, there should be a waterproof layer under the tiles, and if there is an old waterproof layer under the levelling compound, it should be removed. Otherwise, you can trap water between the waterproof layers.
Here are the actual definitions from Boverket. They are specified in their General Advice for BBR:

Then there are BKR's rules to read for details regarding the industry standard.

Okay, thanks.
