What do the moisture values on the moisture indicator represent?
Had a craftsman at my and my partner's home, who among other things moved a doorway in the bathroom. To create the new doorway, a plumber had to remove previous water pipes running along the wall, these went along the shower corner. Afterwards, I've borrowed a moisture indicator from a friend to check if the drill holes by the shower corner had let in moisture, but it seemed fine, indicating 2.5-3.5%. In the floor below the drill holes, however, it indicates a moisture level between 8-10%. What do these values mean? Is this something I need to worry about or is this normal? As you might notice, I have very limited knowledge in the area, but a lot of respect for water...
Grateful for help.
Grateful for help.
Do you measure on top of the plastic mat or in the tile joints? What is interesting is the condition of the substrate under the waterproofing layer. Or are you renovating and have torn up the floor? If so, what kind of waterproofing layer was there?
I took the measurements in the tile joints and over the tiles. We are in the process of a renovation, but we haven't touched the floor or the wall with the drill holes. My thought was (after advice from a friend) to fill the drill holes with silicone and then grout over it. Therefore, I wanted to check if there was any moisture "inside" the tiles and ceramics before sealing "the mess"...
Aha. It is completely uninteresting if there is moisture in the joints and under the tiles. Or rather, it always is. The waterproof layer is under the tiles, above it can be as wet as it wants. Do as you had planned, and load in a lot of silicone.
