Hello!

We have just acquired a croft built in 1869, and this is my first post in the forum. The whole process of the purchase went quite quickly, and now I'm a little curious about what it is we've actually bought. We are beginners, for sure, but interested in learning and doing things the right way.

I have a thousand questions, and no possibility today to investigate, so I'm left with a bunch of pictures to look at and ponder until we visit in a few weeks.

Now I have a question that perhaps you can help me with. In the "main room," the walls around look like this: I wonder. Is this some kind of panel that has been put up, or is this real timber?

Because when I look in the attic just above, it looks completely different, and there's some kind of insulation protruding, which makes me not understand anything at all...

Can someone help me and describe what's happening in the pictures?

Red wooden cottage with white trims, surrounded by green grass and trees, under a clear blue sky.
The croft.

Cozy room with wooden walls, striped sofa, green double doors, and rustic decor. A wooden table, chair, colorful rugs, and a chandelier complete the space.
The room with timber (or panel?).

Attic with exposed wooden beams, old insulation, and a small window with lace curtains. Green rugs lay on uneven wooden flooring.
Above the room, in the attic.

Hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like some kind of panel - timber in that dimension is usually much more cracked...
