What dimension of stud is required to support this? (info in text)
I have 235cm between the walls in our basement where I'm setting up benches for a washing machine/dryer. I want to build in two 40cm high, 60cm wide cabinets and place the washing machine and dryer on top of them, then also an 80cm high and 60cm wide cabinet next to this. Can a beam be secured to support this span? Or do I need a post in the middle at the front to bear the weight? The depth of the bench will be about 70cm, I would guess.
I hope you understand what I mean. It’s three cabinets in width, where two of the cabinets are low and will have a washing machine and dryer above them.

You could probably use the same sizing (even slightly thinner) as the floor joists: http://www.traguiden.se/konstruktio...uktionsvirke-i-ett-fack/?previousState=101000
i.e. 45x220 C14 or 45x195 C24.
I would guess that even a lower construction grade would be sufficient since the span is not 3m and the load is lower than a regular floor...

Is there any particular reason why the entire countertop must be cantilevered? Are the cabinets pre-made or are they going to be built? Can't the cabinet frames take up the load? If I'm calculating correctly, you should have 3x60 = 180 cm cabinets on 235 cm, which means you should have plenty of space to place vertical supports between the cabinets, such as plywood sheets.
Will check that out klaskarlsson.
f91jsw, want it off the floor since I don't like legs on things, at least not in the space that I'm going to organize
Might possibly throw in a 40/50cm cabinet in that area too, but still don't want any legs underneath if possible. And that doesn't seem to be a problem

Haven't addressed this until now.
I thought of something, if I have the rear beam bolted to the wall and then have a beam at the front edge and another in the middle. I should almost manage with 145mm beams, right? There will also be beams on each side of the ggen as well.
There will then be about 20cm between each beam from the wall out to the front edge.
What do you think?
