Construction site with partially demolished wall, two doorways, and rooms with white and yellow protective floor coverings; visible vacuum cleaner and scattered furniture. In February, we (read: craftsmen) tore down a small wall. Then on top, we built a new closet.

I just talked to a neighbor who renovated and found asbestos in more places than the association had mentioned/known about. Now I'm getting anxious. Could this (which was on the edge of the wall in the floor) be asbestos or another toxic material? To my knowledge, a closet was built directly on top and nothing special was done to seal the hole. As far as I know, I wasn't home when this was done.

Could it pose a health risk now, or can I be at ease living there as we have done for many months?

It is rarely possible to see if something contains asbestos from a picture, you have to send in samples to be sure. But when it comes to asbestos, it is not being exposed to it once that is dangerous but working with it every day for many years, especially if you smoke. If you smoke, it is advisable to quit, but otherwise, there is nothing you can do. Worrying for a long time is more dangerous.

Let's hope there's no asbestos, because now there's a wardrobe over it. I'm more afraid that something may spread from the material now, as it is obviously loosened.

If there's a wardrobe above, it won't move around, whatever it is.
Asbestos is not dangerous if left undisturbed where it is.
