What causes larger damp spots on the underside of the subfloor?
How likely is it that the discoloration on the underside of the floor joists in the crawl space, as shown in the attached image, is due to condensation? Is leakage more likely? There are also several smaller spots of the same nature. The spots have sharp contours and a brownish color. The wood flooring, the top side of the joists, shows no signs of moisture damage. There are no water pipes directly above the spots. The ground in the crawl space consists of rock slabs. The house is a timber vacation home from 2010 without mechanical ventilation, which means there is typically neither overpressure nor underpressure in the house. There is a fireplace in the house, used about once a month during the winter season. It's assumed that underpressure in the house can be expected when the fireplace is used. The insulation in the house is of a simpler type, such as double-glazed windows, but still sufficient to stay for a few days. The house was purchased three years ago, so I am not aware of the entire history.
Hello
Those are Styrofoam boards, and the stain looks to me like something has dripped from above.
I would take down the board to be able to see the condition of the studs and the rest of the wood. Then you can also determine if it has dripped from above and possibly where from.
What rooms are above?
