Weld staircase from square tubing?

The staircase is now almost finished, only the top step remains.

Nice. I wonder what kind of wood you have used for the steps? If it wasn't finished, how did you fix the edges? Thanks!

We split down 2" bok and glued them together according to the carpenter's recommendation. Haven't done anything to the edges. The choice of material was what was available at the moment.

Split down 2 beech? Don't quite understand. Please explain a little and where do you buy such? Quite new in this area so asking newbie questions.
