Hello

I discovered water damage inside the balcony door today when I ripped up the masonite that was under the carpet.

It seems to be in 2 places. Approximately at the moldings.

Water damage on wooden floor near balcony door, visible dark stains and wet areas on the wood surface.
Water damage on wooden floor near balcony door with visible dark stains and wood decay. Close-up of a balcony door threshold showing water damage near a wooden floor, with decking and tar paper visible outside.
Water damage around wooden balcony door frame with visible dampness and potential rot, seen from inside, next to a concrete balcony with loose decking.
Water damage on wooden door frame near balcony, with visible moisture marks, loose boards, and tar paper underneath. Seeking repair advice.
A water damage near a balcony door, showing wooden flooring and brown door frame with visible moisture, possibly due to loose decking and old tar paper.

Outside there is an old concrete balcony with loose decking pieces and tar paper underneath.

Any tips? Ideas?

Does it leak in during every rainstorm or does it also require the wind to blow from a certain direction?

Good question, I've only lived there for 3 days.
Haven't noticed anything and the carpet wasn't wet on the surface.

Dry up and keep an eye out in the near future, and you'll probably figure out where it comes from...

Sounds sensible.
Feels like it's coming from under the door.

So, no flooring was done, having to live with ugly masonite with paint spills everywhere...

Isn't there a better alternative? Not ideal when you have 2 small children.

It is autumn now...you probably don't need to wait many days...;)

You're f*cking right about that!
Really crappy weather lately.

A bit hard to see in the pictures how it looks in the "corner," but considering how wet it is, there should be significantly more discoloration if it had been going on for a long time. Maybe the movers left the door open and it rained?

Otherwise, my best guess is that it's leaking in between the frame side and threshold joint (because the door looks like it should protect well). At the same time, wouldn't such a leak go more downward than out onto the floor?

I had a window where over time water crept into the joint between the side piece and the bottom piece in the frame. It wasn't visible until one day I pressed my thumb through the panel...

Call a craftsman;)

Hantverkare2 then? ;-)

What does it look like further up in the door? Where the glass ends.

As a craftsman and moreover a carpenter, you shouldn't have to ask these types of questions, but if you've been into new construction for the last 10 years, you do get pretty rusty.

Good tips!

I'll check tomorrow to see if I can figure out if it comes in between the threshold and jamb side. Seems reasonable since it's wet on the sides but not in the middle....

I think it looks like it's coming in under the threshold. What does the threshold plate look like? Sometimes you have to seal under the threshold to make it tight.

That was my first thought.
The plate is a regular bent plate, but it doesn't go all the way down to the concrete, or the paper, rather.
