If only one side is to be visible, I would use several screws to hold them together in addition to the clamps and batten pieces. If both sides will be visible, I would use two screws in places where they are as inconspicuous as possible to fix them in place when tightening the clamps. These can be removed once the glue has dried. The screws should be countersunk and not threaded along the entire length. And as mentioned: brush out the glue so that it covers the entire surface.

You can't drill from the back about 15-20mm and insert iron? If you stop a few centimeters from the front edge, it will likely never be visible.

Oh my god.

I've been so damn stupid. But I have to share this now so no one makes the same mistake. I've been SO penny-wise and pound-foolish. Which is unlike me and who I want to be. But this time I really succeeded.

Wanted to get "away cheap" so I bought four shelves at Biltema for a total of about 650 SEK. (already exceeding the limit). The shelves have to be glued together so I have to buy LOTS of glue. Cost about 100 SEK. Then I have to trim my leftover oak countertops that I have in the basement, which I'll use to press the shelves together. So I have to buy a circular saw. I get a Bosch from Classe for about 1250 SEK. But I want to be frugal so there will be no clamps. But lots of clamps are needed. Bought 10 clamps. Costs maybe about 800 SEK in total. I KNOW. It's completely illogical and stupid thinking is what you're reading. It’s obviously a HUGE JOB to try to clamp the shelves together and it's not good at all. It's crooked and not tight. There are too few clamps and no clamps so it's not good at all.

Last night I was lying in bed just feeling bad about everything and wondering what to do. "Would a planer help? Do I have to buy that too...?" But I come to better thoughts. "What is the simplest solution really? That thing about laminated beams seemed so good. But it was so expensive... But oh my god... Wait a minute... shit... I've spent SO much more money on this project now than what laminated beams cost."... I turn on the lamp and pull up the laptop on my lap and go to Byggmax and search for laminated beams. Trying to find a thickness I like to start with... 42 mm is perfect. The nicest would be with two pieces that make up a plane. Need something between 34 to 40 cm in depth. I find one that is 180 mm. So two would be 36 which would be PERFECT. But shit, it only comes in 6 meters. That's SUPER LONG... The shelf I need is only 150 cm. Let's see. It costs only 470 SEK. I need four planks for two shelves.
I take out the calculator. 4 x 150....................

Need I say more.... I'm offering you this one.

RIGHT ANSWER: LAMINATED BEAM

You mean Limträbalk as in the advice you received a month ago in this thread?

Yes, just rub salt in the wounds... But yes, that's why it came to mind again as I described.

Sometimes it's wrong to go over the river for water  when it's closer by :) good luck with your shelf :):)

Personally, I just think it sounds like an unusually successful operation to increase the gadget inventory a bit. Well done and keep fighting!

Now that I've thrown away all the old oak pieces and cleaned the entire apartment, taken a shower, and had a beer, I can just laugh at the whole thing anyway. It was expensive, but I've got it how I want it now anyway. SO NICE

It's the end result that counts. But if you want to get some of the money back that you've spent, you can sell off various clamps and saws. Otherwise, keep the stuff and feel that it's good to have for next time. ;)

There are three important lessons one can be gifted with from "doing it yourself."

1. How to do it.
2. How not to do it.
3. Why you shouldn't do it yourself.

In really good projects, all three.

Are you done now? If you glue together 2 laminated beams, unfortunately, you will get a V-shaped notch in the middle as all laminated beams I've seen are beveled on the sides.

In addition, you will likely need clamps or at least sturdy clamps. Use dowels to get it to align as well!
However, clamps wouldn't have been much help in your previous project. There, many clamps are necessary.

I've been so damn foolish, seriously. But I have to share this now so no one makes the same mistake. I've been SO stupidly cheap. Which is unlike me and not who I want to be. But this time I really outdid myself.

Wanted to get away "cheap" so I bought four shelves at Biltema for a total of around 650 SEK. (already breaking the budget). The shelves have to be glued together so I have to buy LOTS of glue. Cost around 100 SEK. Then I have to trim my leftover oak countertops that I have in the basement which I will use to press the shelves. So I have to buy a circular saw. I get a Bosch from Classe for around 1250 SEK. But want to be thrifty so there will be no clamps. But lots of clamps are needed. I buy 10 clamps. Costs maybe around 800 SEK total. I KNOW. What you're reading is completely illogical and stupid thinking. Of course, it becomes a HUGE task trying to clamp the shelves together and it doesn't work well at all. It becomes crooked and not tight. There are too few clamps and no clamps so it doesn't work well at all.

Yesterday evening I'm lying in bed just feeling bad about everything and thinking about what to do. "Would an electric planer help? Do I have to buy one of those too...?". But I come to better thoughts. "What is the simplest solution really? That thing with glulam beams seemed so good. But it was so expensive... But my god... Wait here... shit... I've spent SO much more money now on this project than what glulam beams cost."... I turn on the lamp and pick up my laptop in bed and go to Byggmax and search for glulam beams. So two pieces become 36 which would be PERFECT. But shit, it's only available as 6 meters. That is SUPER LONG... The shelf I need is only 150 cm. Let's see. At least it only costs 470 SEK. I need four boards for two shelves.
I bring out the calculator. 4 x 150....................

Need I say more.... I'm sharing this.

CORRECT ANSWER: GLULAM BEAM
Thank you for sharing your experiences! I've followed the thread but couldn't add anything. I hope the final result turns out well!
See the purchase of tools as an investment! :)

Old thread but I had approximately 10-month-old 45x170 pressure-treated wooden beams that had been in the garage and became slightly warped, about 1-2 cm in the middle towards the ends. With a spirit level, I fixed two flat surfaces and placed the beams on them. I placed weights and other items in the middle of the beams, and after a couple of days, they were straight. I don't know how dry they were, but significantly drier and lighter than when they were purchased.
