Has always worked perfectly here too. Just like steel wool.
But how thick a layer in that case? Must need a large amount? How should I seal it against the edges? So they don't come in there

Seal the hole with concrete. It's the only thing that will be tight and durable over time.

Hard to see that aluminum foil would deter mice. Or maybe our pests were a bit special, as they chewed through all the metal foil on bubble bottles in the pantry.
I've had the same experience. I even found that the mice had gnawed through an aluminum tealight cup in search of wax or paraffin.

In your case, the hole is too large to be completely sealed with aluminum foil/steel wool, I would say.

[link] or something similar might work. Maybe you place it there and secure it with some sealant/caulking around pipes and sides. Or cast if possible.

I have used steel wool in the cabin and haven't had any problems since then.

A tip is not to spend hundreds of kronor on steel wool for mice, but buy the exact same that is sold as steel wool for painters https://www.hornbach.se/c/kok-tvatt-stad/stadutrustning-rengoring/vatrengoring/stalull/S27394/

Or 20kr on a few cm of concrete / or even a few cm of leveling compound, and you're all set, with a sealed hole that becomes mouse-free.

Plaster mixed with crushed glass is supposed to be good, I've heard my dad say.

It concerns a basement where the hydrofor is located. Planning to use it as a pantry. Does anyone have an idea?
I would have cut a sheet metal. Or to be extra clear, several overlapping sheets and around penetrations.

Thanks for all the tips on buying concrete. Will report back with the results.

Well, it turned out quite tight at least :) not very pretty maybe, but I'm no mason. Now on to the next problem in the same area. Ventilation from the house foundation outside is at chest height in another spot in the basement. The mesh appears okay in the ventilation grille, tested with a screwdriver and felt that the mesh is there. But there's a lot of rockwool there, so the mice are there too. Also see a hole up in the wall to the right, so they get into the inside of the wall. The wall is at least 60-70 cm thick. But I guess the only option is to clean up there and try to seal it up too ☹️. Not fun to crawl up there, cramped space and mouse droppings with rockwool.... Pull off the grille from the outside, but it's fairly newly set, maybe 3 years ago. But it doesn't help much if it has to be sealed, the hole is small. So would appreciate some advice here too. I'm thinking in the end of sealing a grille on the inside so they can't get into the basement. But it would be good to prevent them from entering that way and getting up into the house along the wall.

In picture 2, you can see the ventilation at the back with rockwool in front. Also the hole at the top right and left near the grille. PS! I've already cleared out some of the rockwool.

  • Concrete floor with pipes and a damaged mortar section; signs of repair and some exposed insulation.
  • Crawl space passage with insulation fragments (Rockwool) and mouse traps visible. Stone walls and a small hole appear at the back.

I would think that a bag of concrete costs 60kr, but it's definitely worth it if it solves the problem...
