The carpet we want to remove is fully glued. Since it's the lower floor and it's cold on the floors, the plan is to install a new wall-to-wall carpet. The old one is old! Dirty - yes, very likely
But is it better to let it stay than to mess with materials we don't know anything about? The house and probably the carpet are from 1981.

Yes, the rest of us know even less about the materials in your house.
But if the carpet has been there for 33 years, I would also remove it, no matter the cost
There are alternatives to glued-down wall-to-wall carpets.
Either loose-laid carpets or just regular rugs,
that are loose and easier to clean.
A carpet doesn't need to go "wall to wall."
It's not often one sneaks along the walls

Anyone who has removed a fully glued carpet? Should one check for hazardous substances? Reading posts below.
And as for the knowledge of a forum, I obviously have no expectations of getting all-knowing answers - but some tips or "this is how we did it" are appreciated, even a desire
