Vertical studs?

When framing a new exterior wall, which is usually best:

To have vertical studs on the inside or outside?
In my case, I want to have exterior gypsum and clad the walls with it, and it seems easiest to screw into the verticals to make it tight. But is that usually done?
Any disadvantages?
Is there a previous thread where this has been discussed?

Is there sand in the Sahara?
Yes, there are a number of questions from before. The question is really what you should have outside of the plaster, it's clearly easiest to let that guide.
