Hello
Last year I hired a ventilation company that installed a ventilation system in my house. They also laid down the ducts and covered them with insulation and aluminum tape.
Now, after just 11 months, the aluminum tape and insulation have already started to come loose and break in several places. I have contacted the installer via email and sent pictures, but have yet to receive a response.

My questions are:
  • Is this normal after less than a year, or is it a clear sign of substandard work/material?
  • How long should correctly installed insulation/tape normally last?
  • What steps should I take if the installer continues to ignore me?
I would appreciate tips and advice from those with experience in ventilation installations or similar situations.

Thank you in advance,
NM

A proven solution used by professionals is mesh mat that is secured with galvanized steel wire. Tape does not have the durability over time that is needed, both for temperature and mechanical use. It's crude that they don't know better.

  • Insulated ductwork with reflective foil in an attic space, surrounded by wooden beams and plywood.
  • A damaged insulation duct with torn reflective foil wrap in an attic space, showing exposed insulation material underneath.
  • Insulated ductwork in an attic, with reflective foil wrapping for thermal efficiency, under a wooden roof structure.
  • Foil-wrapped insulation covering a duct, secured to a wooden frame in an attic space.

Wrap wire around it. Easily done and will not come loose on its own.

Edit: Oops, didn't see that wire was already mentioned...

It's not just a few isolated spots – I have already fixed two myself, but there are still 6–8 left. The installer also said there is a two-year warranty, so I think he should take responsibility for this.

Don't give up if no one answers, go to the company and bring the pictures. It's exactly for situations like this that you have a warranty. It's obviously a fault in the execution which they are obligated to fix.

When insulating with Lamellmatta, the seams should be taped, and then wire should be wrapped around the duct to ensure that the tape does not come off and the duct is not exposed. There is a risk of condensation, especially if it is supply air ducts.
