Yesterday, I installed Bison vapor barrier from byggmax. After a few hours, I noticed that it has a rather strong smell, a bit burnt and "chemical." It's hard to describe a smell, of course, but that's the closest I can get.

Is such a smell common for a vapor barrier?

I would think so. I bought a steam brake at Hornbach from a well-known brand that also smelled for sure 2-3 weeks. So I think it’s normal.

Thanks for the response. Was the smell strong enough that you could notice it in the room and not just when you put your nose up to the vapor barrier? I can smell it on the entry floor and the vapor barrier is installed on the upper floor.

Yep, there was a strong smell and it spread to the adjacent room.

I did have protective plastic against that room, but there was still a lot of smell. The roll that's left doesn't smell anymore. Although, it's been a few months since then.

Okay, then I feel calm. Thanks for the answer.
