Currently decorating an attic room and have just replaced the window. The wall is constructed as follows:
Old plank wall
Vertical 145+45
Plastic
Horizontal 45
Horizontal OSB
Vertical gypsum

My question is whether I should have skipped framing around the entire window and instead let the last layer of insulation go all the way to the vertical studs to break the thermal bridge there.
The vertical pieces don't seem so necessary since they don't exist anywhere else.

  • Newly installed window in an attic room with visible tools on the windowsill; partial view of the outdoors visible through the window.

I think it looks good, you won't save any noticeable money by removing the studs since the only real thermal bridge is the frame.

You need to have something to screw the discs into, so you did it completely right.

I have nothing in the corners except for the horizontal battens, so for that reason, I don't feel I need them vertical. But I chose to keep them anyway, mostly because they are nailed and too cumbersome to remove. :)
