Type of paint for interior basement?
What type of paint should I use in the basement? Plastered lecavägg and cast concrete slab in the ceiling. I was thinking of using silicate paint but apparently, it's not very durable. The paint store recommended regular interior paint but will that work?
If you have an older basement that is not insulated under the slab or outside the walls, I would always go with silicate paint, as it can allow moisture to pass through, which ordinary "indoor paint" cannot. The previous owner of my house had painted the basement walls with some latex paint, guess if there was a lot of plaster and paint peeling because of trapped moisture!
Silicate paint becomes quite cheap if you mix your own. The difficult part seems to be finding a reasonable recipe for it, especially the amount of pigment. I plan to paint with such paint in the basement sometime later... I've gotten as far as buying Natronvattenglas and Calcium carbonate, a bit unsure about the last one, but I think that's what it was called, anyway pure chalk. It seems I'll have to experiment a bit and see what happens. I should be able to test the paint mixture on some cheap stone slabs of concrete or similar.
I have a new basement with 20 cm of cellplast under the slab and lecavägger with platonmat outside and good drainage. Everything built on and backfilled with blasting stones so external water seems unlikely.b8q said:If you have an older basement that isn't insulated under the slab or outside the walls, I would always go with silicate paint, as it can allow moisture to pass through, which regular "indoor paint" cannot do. According to Beckers professional store, regular indoor paint also allows moisture to pass through. I think I'll paint the ceiling with regular paint and see how it goes. I was considering acrylic paint in the first place.
Maybe still best with silicate paint on the walls. Where can I find recipes to mix myself?
EDIT: Maybe this one from Biltema, has anyone tried it? http://www.biltema.se/sv/Bygg/Farg-och-Fog/Farg-utomhus/Mur--och-putsfarg/
