I am in the process of renovating my kitchen. I have bought an entirely new kitchen. Instead of traditional tiles or other such wall coverings, I chose the most unconventional - to use decorative stone that is also made of gypsum - see the article "Avella" from Hornbach.
This decorative stone is to be glued between the wall cabinets and base cabinets, as well as above the wall cabinets. Before choosing this option, I was aware that this was probably the most impractical material for this particular purpose. However, I chose it for aesthetic reasons, and it will look very nice with the downlights above. I simply chose aesthetics over function.
The big question is how I should treat the decorative stone to both create a moisture barrier so that it doesn't "absorb" splashes from the stove, and make it have a "glossy" surface so that it can actually be maintained in a normal and easy way? Anyone have any ideas...
I would be very grateful for responses, and responses that criticize my choice of wall covering as impractical, etc., are not requested... I've heard this a couple of times now, but I won't give in.
