Hi! Hard to come up with a catchy headline for this question!
In our apartment, the water pipe runs in the corner of the living room and it is enclosed in a "box" constructed of steel rails and plasterboard that is then wallpapered. Now, the box was intact when we moved in but because of reasons, it is no longer! ("Let's just remove the corner trims so it looks a bit cleaner?")
So now to my question, how would you repair this? Note that for aesthetic reasons I don't want to use wooden corner trims, but a thin corner trim is okay if it can be plastered over.
Thanks in advance to all you nice and helpful souls here on the forum who can put up with rookies like us!

Remove broken gypsum, replace with intact gypsum. Install metal edging for gypsum, spackle, paint, and look happy.
All external corners on gypsum should have metal/corner protection. Available in all hardware stores.

I used these when building a wall. Works perfectly, you can't see any trace of them after two or three layers of spackling over them.
