Hello,
My basement is divided - half is just a basement and the other half is a small studio apartment that I have rented out (souterrain house). I'm now thinking of tiling the laundry room. One long side is underground, the opposite side faces the apartment, and the two short sides both have doors leading to other rooms in the basement. The whole space is relatively dry, the old plaster is in good condition on all walls except for the long side that is underground, where it has flaked a bit. The floor is concrete with a drain in the middle. I wasn't planning to seal or do much prep work other than sanding everything and applying adhesive and tile/clinker. There are water radiators in several rooms in the basement, and it's only a laundry room, so I didn't plan to spend time and money on underfloor heating either. I might lower the ceiling with steel beams to hide the unattractive ceiling but was thinking of just using steel studs and placing the ceiling directly on them. Does that work? Or do you need to install drywall first?
What do those of you who know about this say? Am I oversimplifying it? Thanks / Pia
