Hi, I am planning to make new interior walls to be painted later. I was thinking of using plywood under drywall to have something more durable to screw into. However, the question arises with the drywall whether it matters if I use 6mm or 12mm thickness to cover the walls so I get a smooth paintable surface.

If it doesn't matter, is 6mm more difficult to work with (put up without it breaking)?

Thanks in advance.

you can use OSB boards instead of plywood (significantly cheaper), it doesn't matter what type of drywall you use, 13mm is usually cheaper than 6mm, just remember to set the electrical boxes deep enough in the wall.
it's not harder to work with 6mm drywall, I think.

6mm plasterboard tends to produce ugly screw holes which become more troublesome to fill compared to a regular plasterboard. I would have used regular plasterboard for the simplicity and economy.

Hello

Regular gypsum is best and cheaper. However, I personally think that budget boards (available at Byggmax) are just junk. They can hardly be lifted. My advice is to buy 13mm of good quality...

Best regards

K-plyfa is not significantly more expensive than OSB. The great thing about plyfa is that you can use the scraps for a lot of other things, such as building machine boxes, toolboxes, scrap boxes, and various jigs. In that regard, OSB is considerably worse. I think that 13 mm gypsum at 900 width is the easiest to work with. If you use plyfa and 13 mm gypsum, electrical boxes for double gypsum work well.

Agree... 900 is best... often a bit more expensive per sqm but much more convenient.

take 10 mm chipboard instead... EVEN cheaper...
if you are not going to mount a TV then take this...

but 10mm chipboard + 13mm gypsum doesn't fit so well with electrical boxes for double gypsum...

It depends on where you attach them. If you take regular boxes that are to be nailed, you just set them 3 mm deeper.
