I have a townhouse from the 50s and I'm trying to put up some Eket shelves on a wall in the basement. However, it's really difficult to drill. It stops and I think it sounds strange. It's on 4 out of 6 holes. It seems to reach the same depth. I've uploaded a video. Is there something in the wall? What's the problem?
You're running the machine in the wrong direction.
If you hit a reinforcing bar, it is not certain that the concrete drill will be able to drill through the steel. I helped my son with drilling using a rotary hammer for curtain rods and smoke detectors in his apartment. I encountered reinforcing bars in every hole. Completely unlikely. I then switched to a regular steel drill and drilled through the steel. There are special drills that can handle both concrete and reinforcing bars, but I guess you have, just like me, a drill for pure concrete.
Start by ensuring that you are moving in the right direction. If you are, it's likely a rock or rebar in the way.
Unfortunately, in that case, you'll need a rotary hammer; it's almost impossible to wear through it with that machine.
Thank you all for your engagement! We finally succeeded, my son and I!

So you were just too scared at first?
Drilling into concrete involves both loud noise and it can take quite a lot of time (especially with the "wrong" equipment), which you have now realized 😄
Congratulations!
